Description
Spectrum Farms LLC will be hosting a dahlia workshop at our flower farm on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. This 1-hour workshop will be led by Chris Sylvester of Spectrum Farms and provide the opportunity for attendees to gain an overview of a year in dahlias, including planting the tubers in spring, enjoying the blooms through the summer and fall, digging of tubers in early winter, and storing practices of the tubers for next season. The workshop will also explore the difference in starting dahlias from tubers, cuttings, and seeds, and include a hands-on experience of taking a dahlia cutting to plant. The workshop will conclude with a behind the scenes look at our dahlia growing areas on the farm.
Attendees will take home one (1) dahlia plant started from Floret dahlia seeds, one (1) potted dahlia tuber (used to take cutting from during the workshop), and one (1) dahlia cutting (from the hands-on dahlia cutting experience).
Light refreshments will be provided from our cottage food establishment.
This workshop is perfect for beginning growers and home gardeners that would like to have an in-person learning experience to gain knowledge about dahlias. The date of the class aligns with Delaware being located in USDA plant hardiness zone 7, so you can have fun planting your dahlias after the workshop.
Please note this event will take place outdoors on a working farm. There are areas of uneven ground as we tour parts of the farm.
